Urban development and green economy

The growth of metropolis needs to be effectively managed in order to avoid the risk of degradation connected to processes of unruly urbanisation and the diseconomies that follow. How far is a city able to organise its urban functions on the territory? How well does it pursue land management policies, sustaining development through the requalification of disused or underused areas, offering large and attractive green spaces thus favouring social, economic and environmental sustainability? These developments - together with real estate market dynamics and the presence of a pervasive and high-quality commercial and food service network – effectively show the overall indirect dimension of the successfulness of the urban development policies undertaken by each city. The indicators selected are efficient land use, green areas, air quality, residential real estate and, ultimately, commercial and food services.
